A folder about ME

A folder about ME is a set of resource materials aimed at upper primary and secondary school students. It contains 60 pages of work sheets that can be used to help students who have a disability understand their strengths and weaknesses, in order for them to be able to adovocate for their needs. It is an excellent set of resource materials for working through transition stages - e.g. primary to secondary school, secondary school to work experience.

The work sheets have been organised into four parts.

Part 1: This is ME - contains information and facts about the student.

Part 2: What I know - contains reports, Individual management programs and information about strengths and disability.

Part 3: Things I can do - contains information, strategies, processes that effectively support the student,

Part 4: Taking control - contains strategies for taking responsibility over decisions and life directions.

Suggestions are provided in the introduction to assist teachers, therapists and support people in implementing this program. All work sheets are provided as blackline masters.

Character base boards

Simple reference scene base boards
(e.g. a beach scene is used with an accompanying set of beach cards to place on the scene, describing position and placement)

Complex reference scene

What's different?
(e.g. there are two versions of a beach scene, where players have to work out the differences between the scenes)

Guess who?
(e.g. there are 24 cards of slightly varying astronauts where one player selects a card and the other has to determine which one it is.)

• place
• manner
• voice
• liquids and glides
• cluster reduction

• initial consonant deletion

Writing assessment materials

This is a practical resource for use in secondary schools. It outlines fundamental aspects involved in writing assessment questions, assignment topics and general classroom materials, and in making them more easily understood and accessible for all students.

While it has particular relevance for students with language impairment or learning difficulties, the principles ensure a fairer assessment for all students. By using these principles, good assessment effectively shows what students know and can do - rather than merely identifying students lack of understanding of what is being asked.

The booklet illustrates a best practice approach to developing written materials for use with students. It covers areas of :
- vocabulary
- grammar and sentence construction
- style of writing
- formatting.

There is a checklist provided at the back which gives teachers a handy reference for checking the wording used in assessment and their own writing style.

Cost: $15.00

I'd rather do lunch than an assignment - Questioning

This resource hs been written for students in upper primary and secondary school settings, as an aid to understanding how to answer and write assignments. A set of five resources are planned for this series, with Questioning being the first.

This book provides slass teachers, support teachers and speech patholgosits with a clear set of strategies for supporting students in looking at the assignment question. It provides several strategies, with three major supports presented as graphic representations, to aid student's comprehension of the assignment topic. These strategies aim to show students how the assignment question works, how parts relate to other parts and how to extend or enhance their thinking.

The main booklet shows teachers how to present the materials, and provides examples for working through this process. There are also a set of student worksheets which present the graphic representations of the strategies and other pages which illustrate the key points.

The other books Planned for this series include:
- Planning
- Researching
- Organising
- Draft / Edit / Write
