About the resources
Sandpiper Publications started in 1996 with the publication
of the Nursery rhymes program. This program provides the activities and a framework for teachers or
teacher aides, that can be run in small groups, with minimal fuss and training, and that is affordable to schools.
Therapists who work in school settings but are unable to work with all the children who are referred, have found
this program an ideal way to reduce their frustrations and minimise the impact of waiting lists.
Many programs have been written since the Nursery rhymes program, which have also been aimed at
empowering school to meet the needs of children while waiting to see the speech pathologist. The programs,
while ideal for implementation at a school level, are equally compatible with the clinic setting, either
fror small groups or individuals.
2005 was a very busy year, with conference presentations
in New Zealand and Australia and numerous workshops in the
first six months. The second half of this year has been
dedicated to developing and finishing off a number of resources
that have been sitting
in the shelves
for several years. This has given a lot of satisfaction,
in being able to free up some brain space.
So in 2006, Sandpiper looks forward to publishing a number of new resources.
It is amazing however, how close you can seem to be to completing something,
only to find that those last few details take more time than you thought.
Some of the new titles include:
- Oracy around Australia
- My first dictionary
- I'd rather do lunch than an assignment - Questioning
- Story Box
- My feelings dictionary
- Language Checkers

Another great therapist based resource company is Love and Reilly, and their web page is well worth a visit to see what is currently available. Their resources are well priced and feature Australian themes.
