Through Piper Books and Puppets, Sandpiper is now able to offer oracy lesson plans for a variety of early childhood books. A range of language resources are available for a growing number of children’s favourite books. All books sold through Piper Books come with a free ‘Talk about’ guide, which provides teachers and parents with some useful ideas and questions for stimulating discussion about the themes and concepts contained in the story.
Resources are constantly being developed for new books for:
- Barrier Games - Instructions for playing the barrier game, examples of the language to be used, and any support materials as black-line masters. Simple and fun to play, barrier games are always an excellent resource for children with a language / learning difficulty;
- Language Games - Traditional games presented in an appealing manner with a language-based activity programmed into the game play. Language topics are based on the book theme, and provide practice for a variety of language skills.
- Working with puppets - Puppets to match the characters from the story are available with ideas on how to get the most from this extremely child-friendly resource.
- Language Lesson Plans - Similar to the oracy lesson plans, these provide instructions and the support materials for activities at sound, word, sentence and text level of language.
- Blanks levels of language - Questions and comments have been scripted for some of the books, based on the model of Blank’s levels of comprehension. An excellent resource for supporting children’s comprehension needs.
